The Low-Stim Evening Guide

I spent so many years letting my days just end without any real intention. I would find myself staring at a screen in the dark and feeling that weird, buzzy anxiety that comes with being too plugged in.

Now I try to treat my evening wind-down like my own sacred boundary by creating a lower stim environment where my nervous system can finally catch its breath.

Here are a couple things I do to romanticize my evenings🤎

Dim The Lights

In the evening I try to phase out most of the bright or direct light in my living space.

It’s a great way of telling your nervous system that the day is over and you are no longer expected to be productive. Plus, I just love how a room feels when it is lit by soft, amber glows instead of harsh overheads.

Calmin The Noise

When the world feels too loud, I like to fill my space with sounds that do not demand anything from me.

Sometimes that means a low-fi playlist or even just the sound of rain playing in the background. It is a way to bridge the gap between a busy workday and the total silence of night.

It helps me stay present in my home without feeling like I need to be "performing" or consuming new information.

Low-Stim Cozy Gaming

Cozy gaming has become such a staple in my evening routine because it allows me to be active in a whimsical world without any of the pressure of a social media feed.

It gives my hands something to do and lets me get lost in a story that feels safe and gentle. It is a much better way to transition into rest than a mindless scroll.

Cozy Hobbies

I find so much peace in my hobby room when the sun goes down. I love pulling out some watercolor supplies or a coloring book and just having fun without any expectations.

The simple act of letting a brush or a marker move across the paper is such a relaxing and grounding experience at the end of the day.

HAve A Warm Drink

The ritual of a warm drink is such a simple sensory reset that can totally act like an anchor for your senses at the end of the day.

It could be a decaf floral tea or just something simple and warm but there is something so grounding about the physical weight of a warm mug in your hands and the slow steam rising from the cup.

Nighttime Skincare

Taking a few minutes for a sensory reset is a healthy way to physically transition out of the day. It is less about the steps of a routine and more about the feeling of finally being back in your own body.

The warmth of the water and the simple act of slowing down helps to melt away the tension we often carry without realizing it. It is a gentle way to signal to your heart and your head that the day is officially over and it is safe to just relax.

Get Cozy With A Book

There is no better way to quiet a busy mind than by sinking into a different world entirely.

Reading really helps our attention spans reset after a day of notifications and quick scrolling. When I'm reading a physical book or listening to an audiobook, the act of getting lost in a story makes me feel warm and cozy pretty much every time.

Final Cozy Thoughts

Reclaiming your peace at the end of the day is such a powerful way to show up for yourself.

We don’t need some complicated routine to find rest. Just being brave enough to turn down the noise and listen to what our hearts are asking for is enough.

Stay warm. Stay cozy.
