How to Add Whimsy to Each Season: Summer Edition
Hi cozy friends! Summer can sometimes feel busy or overwhelming, but I also feel like it’s one of the best seasons to slow down and add a little whimsy to your daily life.
Whether you love spending time outdoors or want to make things cozier from home, here are some of my favorite soft, playful ways to bring some light and intention into summer.
Bring Inside Activities Outside
Take advantage of sunny days by moving some of your favorite indoor hobbies outside.
Coloring, reading, gaming, journaling, or even working from your laptop feels different when you’re surrounded by nature. I love setting up a cozy little corner with cushions, a drink, and my coloring book and just letting the afternoon drift by.
Pick Up Seasonal Hobbies
Let the season inspire your creativity. Think bright, summery scrapbook pages, beach-themed paint-by-numbers, or watercoloring soft ocean scenes.
Picking up hobbies that feel connected to the season helps make each day feel intentional and tied to the moment you’re living in.
Grow New Things
Whether it’s a little windowsill herb garden or a few veggies in the backyard, summer is the perfect time to nurture something green.
I love checking on new sprouts each morning and seeing how much they’ve grown overnight. It’s such a small, quiet joy but it makes the season feel fuller and softer.
Make Summer Plans to Look Forward To
Planning something, even if it’s tiny, gives you something to feel excited about.
A backyard picnic, a day trip to a farmer’s market, or a cozy summerween gathering with friends can make the days feel more intentional. The build-up to these little moments often feels just as sweet as the day itself.
Sign Up for Seasonal Classes
Summer is a great time to try something new just for fun. Check your local rec centers or small art studios for creative classes or workshops.
I love the idea of trying out something playful like pottery, watercolor, or even outdoor yoga. These little activities break up routines and make the days feel softer and a little more special.
Decorate Early
If you’re someone who already feels ready for fall halfway through summer, there’s no shame in starting your cozy decorating early.
Swapping out a throw blanket or adding a soft pillow in fall colors can bring a little bit of that slower, softer energy into your space whenever you want. Cozy is for you, not the calendar.
Make Summery Treats
One of my favorite parts of summer is the abundance of fun produce. Peaches, cherries, tomatoes, or berries all make sweet & simple treats.
I love trying out new recipes with seasonal fruit or just making a bowl of yogurt with granola and whatever fruit is in season. It feels easy and fresh and just right for slow mornings.
Use Seasonal Stickers
Stickers are such a small thing, but they make journaling, scrapbooking, or planning feel more fun.
Finding ones that match the season helps keep me grounded in the moment instead of always looking ahead to what’s next. A little page filled with summery cuties just makes me smile.
Plan Themed Day Trips and Staycations
Make the ordinary feel a little more special with small, themed adventures.
Color at the beach, plan a summerween sleepover with friends, or spend a weekend exploring your city like a tourist. These small moments add whimsy and break up routines in the sweetest way.
Start a Seasonal DIY Project
Use the energy of the season to finally start that little project you’ve been thinking about.
Set up a sun sail, work on raised garden beds, or organize an outdoor nook for slow mornings with tea. It feels so good to make progress on something that brings you joy.
Wrapping It Up
Summer can be soft, cozy, playful, and full of tiny joys when you approach it with intention and a sense of whimsy. These ideas aren’t about being productive or getting everything right; they’re about noticing the little things and creating moments that make you feel happy to be exactly where you are.
